1 – Local Hero.
Regarded as one of the best films of all time, Local Hero centres around a man who is sent to Scotland by an American oil company looking to build a refinery there.
Things don’t go as expected though and the central character encounters a difficult process convincing the local townsfolk to sell their land to him.
A beautiful film released all the way back in 1983, Local Hero is a must-watch for any movie and oil lover alike.
2 – The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money & Power
A history documentary like no other, The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money & Power tells the globe-spanning story of the oil industry right the way through from its roots.
Offering a unique perspective and historical outtake on the industry’s pivotal people and main moments, the documentary outlines oil’s key role in the 20th century, as told by many specialist historians and participants.
This eight-part series is available on Amazon and certainly makes for a great way to pass the time while in lockdown.
3 – Deepwater Horizon.
One of the more modern entries on our list, Deepwater Horizon tells the story of the disaster of the same name.
Starring Hollywood A-listers Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell, the film offers a dramatized look at the April 2010 disaster, when the offshore drilling rig ‘Deepwater Horizon’ exploded and caused the worst oil spill in American history.
While it may not offer the same historical outlook as some of the other films listed here, the film is certainly a popcorn movie which demonstrates just how important it is to look after oil effectively.
